Shikari Devi Temple: A Peaceful Place
Shikari Devi Temple is located about 21 kilometers from Tejas Hotel Karsog and is accessible via a jeep-friendly forest road. Sitting at an altitude of 3,359 meters, it is the highest peak in the Mandi District, often referred to as the “Crown of Mandi.” The journey to Shikari Peak is stunning, with thick forests along the way. Nature lovers are drawn to its vast green pastures, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and panoramic views of snow-capped mountains.
In winter, this area experiences heavy snowfall, turning it into a winter wonderland. At the top, visitors can find the roofless Shikari Devi Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of Hunters. Legend has it that this temple was built by the Pandavas, adding to its historical charm. Additionally, it is believed that Sage Markanday meditated here for many years, making it a special spiritual site.
What’s truly remarkable is that, despite the temple having no roof, it remains free of snow during winter while the surrounding area is often covered in several feet of snow. This unique aspect attracts many visitors who come to explore the beauty and mystery of the place.
For adventure seekers, Shikari Devi offers several trekking routes to nearby locations like Chindi, Karsog, and Janjehli. Those looking for a challenge can embark on a day-long trek to Kamrunag, a 16-kilometer journey through wide pastures that showcases breathtaking views and a sense of tranquility. This combination of adventure and natural beauty makes Shikari Devi a cherished destination for everyone.
